A wonderful feeling........

Yesterday was a very special day for us. We went to the local mission that feeds the homeless and helped prepare the meal and feed the hungry people who came in. Our church group volunteered to provide the food and make a meal for these less fortunate folks. We all contributed to the food that was purchased and then fixed the meal. We served baked chicken legs and thighs, French Fries, green beans, corn, and salad. We all made homemade desserts and brought those in as well. We fed approximately 100 people and then cleaned up by doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen and wiping down tables, sweeping the floor, etc. This was such a wonderful experience I can't begin to tell you how much it meant to us. We felt like we got more out of it than the people who came in to eat.

These people were so appreciative and nice to us. We were so impressed by how many of them came up to us afterward and thanked us and told us how delicious the food tasted. My hubby and I talked about what stories each of those people had and what had caused them to be in a position to come there to eat dinner. It was certainly an eye opening experience for us all.

We felt so blessed to be able to help feed the people. We all decided that maybe we should do this on a monthly basis.

Our church has been providing a hot meal like that for many years. I helped a few times with our scout group when my boys were in Boy Scouts. There are 5 different churches in our town that rotate days with the free meal and the Salvation Army always takes the meal on Sundays.

It is always a good feeling helping others.

By helping others, we ultimately help ourselves....
Thanks for reinforcing that lesson by sharing your experience with us!

Doing something like that not only blesses our hearts but also reminds us of how fortunate we are. What a wonderful experience.

What a wonderful thing to do Kathy. We actually have this at our church as well. I need to volunteer to do that again. Thanks for reminding me! Oh...Frangi lives in St. Thomas but is in Miami, FL quite often. We will be meeting in FL.

I think that's a LOVELY idea and isn't it always amazing how much we get when we give? How wonderful of you to do this but not at all surprising. It sounds just LIKE you. :) It's obvious you are a person of blessing.

Oh Kathy...thank you so much for your post. This is so hard to share but I am closer to my blogging community than family. Figure that out...it really is starting to bother me. My mother in law actually called to give me an update on Steven and heard the fact that I had been crying. She told me that she will always be here for all of us...I would love to let this family back in...maybe now is the time...who knows...thanks again!
