Sicko me

Oh boo for me. I am not feeling well. We were going to go to a haunted house tonight but since I am not feeling up to it we're going to postpone it a few days. Our friends didn't want to be infected by me either. I feel like I am getting strep throat. Hurts really bad to swallow. I have gargled and am using Halls plus drops. Lots of hot tea too. I am babying myself. I am hoping by tomorrow I will be on the other side of this thing. I hate being sick and not feeling up to doing my usual stuff around the house. I don't want to have to be waited on by anyone. Must be the Mom in me. It was pretty cold today and is going to be really cold tonight. All the ski areas got snow last night. I am toasty warm in my slippers and under my quilt on the sofa. I need some chicken noodle soup I think.

Just a side note....

I am in the computer room waiting for Survivor to begin. I had to get away from the news channel hubby has on day and night. I am worn out by politics, financial news, etc. I just wanted to relax and listen to some music and read my blog buddies latest entries. I still feel as though I am fighting off a cold but other than that things are good. I didn't have a problem eating today. I made sure I took very small bites and chewed until there was nothing left. I never made it to the gym so tomorrow I have to make up for it. Good night for now..

Lazy Day

It's a lazy day today. I feel like I am getting a cold and just am kind of puny today. My hubby must feel the same way because he went back to bed after being up just a short while. It's quiet and that is a treat. The tv is turned off which never happens it seems. It is drizzling outside and my furbabies are all sleeping too. I wish I had these flowers in the pictures for real. I think they are so pretty. Am I the only one who is sick of politics? I will be so glad when this election is over with. Think I will make a cup of tea and read my book for a while. I still need to get to the gym and do my workout for the day.

Wednesday

I just got back from running some errands. I also worked at church babysitting for the young moms so they could have bible study without their children underfoot. It is a challenge to be sure. I have one other person with me and we've had anywhere from 3 to 12 kids at a time. It is pretty tricky when you have 6 babies who don't walk and they all start to cry at once. But all in all it is fun. I am a grandmother but never get to interact with my grandkids and besides they are all older than these kids now. I have been having a bout of acid reflux since my last fill. I find that if I take an acid reducer before bedtime I can keep it under control. The last week or two I have noticed my band feels tighter than ever and I get stuck quite often. I am wondering if the acid is causing swelling and that is why I feel tighter. I have a 6 month checkup next week so I will discuss this with the doctor. It fells like a fall day today, sunny and breezy and chilly. I love it. They trees are all getting so colorful.

Monday and the sun is back

What a beautiful day it was today. It was about 75 degrees and very nice. I want to lose enough weight to be in the 100s so I have accepted a challenge with my friends at http://www.lapbandtalk.com/. We are trying to lose a certain amount by New Years Day. I hope I can stay focused. I tend to eat an occasional cracker or maybe a dessert if we are with friends. I need to just remember I am trying to lose weight and not be tempted by things that will prevent me from reaching my goal. I did go to the gym and work out today. I always feel better when I do that. I also gave Chloe a bath and she is so soft and pretty when she is clean. After the rain we had it makes her puffy head go flat. She doesn't mind the rain and just wanders around in it sniffing everything and when she comes in her feet are wet as is her belly and her head is flat. It's funny but she still looks cute.

After the Rain

Well we had two days of rain and now the air smells incredible. I love the smell of the air after the rain. Everything smells so clean and fresh. The rain started the oak tree losing it's leaves. We have huge oak in the front of the house and it started dropping it's acorns a few weeks ago. We also have a new deck out front and the acorns are bouncing 4-5 feet high off the deck and the rails. They are littering the yard and the driveway. My hubby is out there every day with his blower trying to keep the driveway clear. Also the deer are out there feeding several times a day. They love the acorns. Even the fawns from this year are out there eating with their Moms. I haven't made my soup from the butternut squash yet but I did find a recipe on a blog I read for Apple Dumplings and I made them for a dinner we had last night with friends over. The apple dumplings were a huge hit. And so easy to make. The hardest part is peeling the apples. I also served roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes and a two cheese broccoli casserole. Everything was delicious. Of course I ate very small portions and only a half a dumpling.

Fall is Here

Well the first of the fall rains is here. It started yesterday but then the sun came out in the afternoon. It began again last night and it is supposed to continue through tomorrow. It is a welcome sight since it's been 3 or 4 months since we've had any rain here. I have been doing well and I've lost 51 pounds so far. I have had a rough week however since I seem to be tighter than I was and am having a bit of trouble eating certain foods. I did learn that when going out to eat I need to eat something easy like salad or soup rather than something that looks really good on the menu. Since I've only told a few people about my Lapband it makes it awkward when something gets stuck and I keep needing to leave the table. I read several blogs now and some I've read for a few years. I noticed that AOL is not going to have Journals anymore so I am glad I didn't start this blog on AOL. I just need to figure out how to add photos and such. I go to the doctor on the 14th for my 6 month checkup and I am hoping to be down a few more pounds than I already am. I am getting excited about cooking dishes for the cooler weather and I got a bag of apples from a friend so I might make some applesauce and can it. I also bought a really nice butternut squash and I am going to make some soup with it. I have never made that soup and I really like the taste of butternut squash soup so maybe I'll have a recipe to reuse. I also have an elderly neighbor (82) who loves soups and makes her own all the time so I can share it with her since my husband won't be eating any. He is a vegetable hater. We have a beautiful maple tree in the front of our house that turns bright orange and red in the fall. I will try and import a picture of it for this blog.
